Dear Jim, good to have that long talk with you a couple of days ago. Sorry that the job didn’t work out. As I told you, it sounds like you were in a situation just like I was in when I came to NYC. Plain and simple, I just wasn’t a good match for the job.
I always enjoy talking to you about spiritual things. All any of us are trying to do is figure things out and make sense out of life which is so complex. We wonder about God. We wonder about life and death. We wonder about human suffering. We wonder about the seeming inequities in life. Most of us find answers for ourselves along the way, answers that make some sense to us, answers that give us meaning and comfort amidst all the complexities.
The huge mistake that some make is when they think that the answers they find apply absolutely to everyone. They judge others who don’t believe or see things the same way.
I don’t think of myself as being a traditional Christian, but I do consider myself a spiritual person.
I read in spiritual or religious books every day. It helps me and gives me meaning in my life.
I meditate.
I believe that there is a mysterious awesome power behind all life.
I believe that that power is within us.
I feel an enormous sense of awe and humility when I think about the mystery and power behind all things.
I believe there is a mysterious balance in all the natural world.
I believe that death is just as much a part of life as birth. It is natural, not something grotesque and cruel.
I believe we all have to find our own spiritual path. Some become Christians, some Buddhists, some Jews, some Hindus, etc. And some become agnostics or atheists. In my mind one isn’t better or worse than the other. And there isn’t punishment for those who don’t think just exactly right.
The important thing is how we treat each other, not what we say we believe about this or that.
I think that many of us along the way come to understand that love is about the only thing that matters, that really lasts. Whether it be family love, marital love, loving relationships, deep friendships, etc.
Well, that’s enough for now Jim. Let’s continue our talks. They are very meaningful to me.
