Dear Carol,

I came across your name recently in the North Dallas HS alumni directory and it really took me back to earlier days in Dallas.  My mom use to work at Wyatt’s and I believe she worked for your dad. I remember you at North Dallas HS and later I was happy when I heard that you and Monty had gotten married.

Monty was one of my closest boyhood friends. We spent a lot of time together in those early years and during the summers we were pretty much inseparable. We played ball, swam at the Highland Park pool, went to movies at the old Knox St. Theater, drank sodas at the Highland Park Pharmacy, harassed grouchy neighbors and generally had fun. On a few occasions Monty went out to the country with us when my family and I went to spend time with my grandmother. Those were sure beautiful innocent days.

My family was especially fond of his mother Jim Boren. She was good to us kids and my sister Carol thought she was very special. Jim always had time for Carol, something she has never forgotten. Virgil was a man of few words as I recall but he too was good to us. Of course I was impressed that he had been a sheriff up in Stillwater Oklahoma.

When Monty went on to Jr High school he and I didn’t spend that much time together anymore.  I started getting very involved in athletics while he was spending more time in his studies and with music. As I recall he greatly enjoyed playing the piano. Sometimes we would sit down and catch up with each other but our lives were taking us in different directions.

I remember when Virgil died. Is Jim still alive?  Also I remember Monty’s sister who lived in California and wonder what happened to her. I think her name was Pat.

Some years ago I read in the North Dallas alumni newsletter that Monty had died. I can imagine that brought great grief to you and your family Carol. It made me sad to know that my old friend passed on so young.

I have lived in New York City now for 23 years and have pastored a church here for 20. My wife Jeri and I have loved it here even though New York can be a mighty intense place. As you can imagine, it was a very sad place in 2001. Both Jeri and I will retire in 2007 and will probably continue to live here. I’ll continue to work but not as intensely as I have for the last couple of decades.

If you have the time or the interest drop me a line. I’d be very interested to know about you and your family and the Borens in general.

My home phone # is 212 689 0157.  My email address is Do1936@aol.com

Sincerely,
