Dear California,
It’s an understatement to say that you are one special person. It’s also hard for me to realize that you’re 70 years down the pike. I think of so many things when I think of you.
I think of the fun that Jeri and I have had on trips with you and Bob. I’ll never forget the times we had in Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Africa, Alaska, Yellowstone, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. Or the time you bravely brought your grandchildren to visit us in Harlem.
When I think of you I think of basically three words that give an accurate picture of you.
The first word is LAUGHTER. You still know how to do it. You love jokes and pass them on to me and to so many of your love ones and friends. Some of them are a touch raunchy but being a retired minister I don’t understand them anyway. (just kiddin)
The second word is LOVE. You are full of love and this too you pass on. There’s a reason why your kids and grandkids love you so much. It’s because you’ve shared so much love with them. You don’t hold back. You lead with your heart.
The third word is LA HABRA. More specifically I’m thinking about the La Habra Villa, the assisted living home where your Mom lives now. You love her deeply and you’re so loyal and faithful to her. Whatever she needs, you’re there for her no matter the personal sacrifice to you. Actually, this is the way you are with all the people who love you.
Well anyway, this is just my piddling attempt to tell you that God threw away the mold when God made you. I’m so glad that I’m a part of your family. You bless us all.
Love,
