Jeri's Mom & Dad, Josie & Jack Haro Eucharist Circa 2013

EUCHARIST…or…OUR LAST VISIT WITH MOM     ©

August 19, 2014

Lush avocado trees,

deep green grass like cushion underfoot,

ripe garden of yellow squash and tomatoes,

clear azure sky, gentle summer breeze.

Jeri and I,

Mom in a wheelchair, quiet, unfocused.

Jeri turns on her Zen Pod, Neil Diamond starts to sing;

Jeri dances and I join her,

Mom focuses and smiles, bobs side to side, softly begins to clap.

Jeri digs into her purse and

lifts out Wilson HS Anniversary chocolate.

She breaks off a piece and says..”In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit”

and places it in Mom’s mouth.

Mom begins to chew and lets out a long Ummmmm.”

Jeri breaks off a piece for me, then her.

Then another for the three of us.

Then another.

Then another

.

Then another.

“Ummmmm.”

Amen.
