Barry was with Carmen when her breath shortened,

when she breathed her last breath,

when her bladder and bowels released.

I told him that at some level she knew he was with her,

that this gave her great peace.

I told him that in the hereafter she knows

he held her hand until the end,

that this gives her great joy and gratitude now.

Words, words, words, words.

Barry cannot forget.

He is haunted by the gurgling, the eyes turned to stone.
