What a sight: the first 180‌‌‌° rainbow I ever saw,

colors so brilliant I was frozen in place,

speechless.

I thought of God’s promise to Noah,

then the myth of the pot of gold.

I walked to the crest of the hill,

held my breath,

peered over.

There were the magic hues

pouring down into a plot of weeds

littered with soggy Kleenex, filter tips

and a used prophylactic.
